Access Git repositories on the go with Working Copy. This iOS app allows you to clone, edit, commit, and push to repositories, while also giving other applications access to your files.

Git plays a crucial role in our work-life, and now iOS can seamlessly integrate with it. The ability to commit even when offline is incredibly useful for a device that frequently moves in and out of network coverage. By cloning repositories, you can have a local copy on your iOS device with commits for all branches. Within the app, you can browse the content, make changes, and other applications supporting the Files app, WebDAV, or x-callback-url will also have access to these files. Any changes made can be committed and pushed back to the remote repository.

While the idea of doing significant programming on iOS may seem unlikely compared to working on a large screen with a physical keyboard and full IDE, it's important to remember that not every task in Git requires extensive programming. Sometimes, you simply need to update a TODO file or make adjustments to your Jekyll site. Other times, you might need to add a file that a designer sent after hours.

If you often create reminders for small code-related tasks, Working Copy is worth trying out. It streamlines the process, saving you time by reducing the need to move files around. Additionally, when writing commit messages for freshly fixed issues, the result will be much better since everything is still fresh in your mind. While you won't be replacing your computer anytime soon, there are instances where fixing things directly on your iOS device is faster and more efficient.

For those occasions when real work needs to be done on iOS, Working Copy is a powerful tool. Its built-in editor supports syntax highlighting for over 50 programming languages and includes a color picker feature. You can preview images, Markdown files, and HTML files, all while benefiting from a JavaScript console that highlights code errors. Creating new branches and merging or rebasing them is also straightforward, thanks to the brilliant merge-tool that handles conflicts seamlessly. Additionally, if you're looking to automate your work, Working Copy offers actions in the Shortcuts app for most operations.

Even if you don't edit code on iOS, Working Copy is an excellent companion for reviewing and discussing code with others. Repositories are cross-indexed, and the powerful fuzzy search feature allows you to quickly jump from a symbol to its declaration, or vice versa. The app also provides a graph of your commits, enabling you to zoom out for an overview of the commit tree or zoom in for specific details about each commit. The speed and beauty of this feature surpass what you would find in traditional desktop Git applications. Furthermore, the diff viewer in Working Copy is perfect for reviewing changes in both text and images, and it even includes a hex-dump mode for those rare occasions where it's needed.

Working Copy is available as a free download, but to unlock its pro features - including the ability to push commits and manage more than five repositories - you will need to make an in-app purchase. Unlike other apps, Working Copy isn't funded by venture capital or large companies. Instead, your support directly sustains its ongoing development.

When you pay to unlock Working Copy's pro features, you gain permanent access to all existing pro features at the time of purchase, as well as any new features added within the next year. After 12 months have passed since your purchase, you'll keep all the pro features you have but any new ones introduced will be locked until you renew your unlock.
